Unteruhldingen’s Pile Dwelling Museum is an archaeological open-air museum located on the lake shore opposite of Mainau island. Meersburg castle was first mentioned in documents in 1147. It was probably built in 630 by Dagobert I, who is also the namesake of the central keep of the Meersburg. Today, several centuries later, you can visit the impressive castle without having to conquer it first.
Friedrichshafen boasts numerous great sights, ranging from Castle Church with its baroque-style bulbous spires to the observation tower at the harbour entrance and the pretty lakeside promenade. At the Bodensee region’s largest technology museum, you can marvel at huge flying boats and nostalgic passenger aircraft and explore 100 years of space and aviation history.
A ride with Bregenz’s Pfänderbahn cable car is a very special experience. In a few short minutes, it takes you from the hustle and bustle of the city up to 1,063-metres Pfänder mountain. At the top, a playground, an Alpine wildlife park and stunning views are waiting for you.
Our tip: It’s easy and convenient to get to Bregenz harbour by boat. From there, it’s only a short walk to the valley station of Pfänderbahn cable car.
