Lindau old town is situated on an island in Lake Constance covering barely 70 hectares. With itsc enturies-old buildings, lively squares and picturesque alleyways, the Lake Constance atmosphere is almost palpable. The well-known harbour entrance with its Bavarian lion and white lighthouse is set against an impressive panorama looking over the Alps and Lake Constance. On the lakeside promenade which is the most attractive on Lake Constance, the numerous cafés are the ideal place to watch the maritime activity in the harbour.
On the mainland, extensive lakeside areas and attractive parks steeped in history, such as the Lindenhofpark, offer even more space to relax, take a stroll and enjoy a picnic.
Lindau has plenty to offer culture fans too: The City museum on the market place is housed in one of the most attractive baroque town houses, the Haus zum Cavazzen, and the high-quality varying art exhibitions are a pleasure to see. Lindau Theatre not only plays host to renowned troupes and ensembles but is also home to the unique Lindau puppet opera which has gained fame outside the region.
