Europe’s largest waterfall

Every year, more than two million visitors make the pilgrimage to Schaffhausen to see the roaring waters of the Rhine. That is why Schaffhausen is sometimes called the “City of the Rhine Falls”. It would nevertheless not be advisable to fall into Europe’s largest waterfall. An average of some 700,000 litres of water per second tumble over a 150-metre-wide rock ledge into the depths 23 metres below. In 1965, a rate of 1.25 million litres was measured. A dangerous yet captivating nature show.
