Kartause Ittingen is not only an atmospheric location; it is also one of the region’s cultural highlights. The former monastery houses two museums featuring regional artists, world-class exhibits, seminars and other unique events. The cultural program is complemented by the famous Ittingen Whitsun con- certs and other musical offerings. A stroll in the massive rose gardens culminates in the cosy beer garden. Enjoy festive occasions in our excellent restaurant with products from our own farm and gardens.
Monks lived here for centuries, first the Augustinians followed by the Carthusians from the 15th century onwards. The monks’ lives can be vividly experienced in the former monastery with its richly furnished dining room, spartan cells and the magnificent rococo church — styled as though monks still live and pray in Ittingen. The rooms are now part of the Ittingen Museum and the Thurgau Art Museum.
Together with the Thurgau Art Museum, the Ittingen Museum forms the core of Ittingen Charterhouse, one of the most important cultural monuments in the Lake Constance region. More than 1,000 rosebushes transform the complex into an annual flowering dream. Flowers, herbs, hops, wine gardens and four garden theme paths invite you to relax and discover.
