The Obersee site was recently discovered in 1998 followed by archeologic investigations in 1999, 2006 and 2011. The 100 meter settlement is located on a shoal, surrounded by several palisade rows. The area of 3-4,000 m2 makes it one of the largest settlements in the alpine foothills. It shows several construction phases from the second half of the 17th century BC. Positioned along lake transport routes from Hurden to Rapperswil, it might have played a strategically role in controlling the bridgehead.
