Schattenburg Castle in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, is one of the best-preserved castle complexes in Austria and a landmark of the town. It was built in the 13th century by the Counts of Montfort and served as their residence. With its mighty walls, impressive keep and romantic courtyards, Schattenburg Castle is an important example of medieval architecture. Today, the castle houses a museum that vividly presents regional history, folk culture and life in the Middle Ages. The originally preserved rooms and the extensive collection of weapons and everyday artefacts are particularly worth seeing.
