Burg Meersburg mit Blick auf dem Bodensee

Old Castle in Meersburg

Meersburg, Germany

On the trail of the past

The oldest inhabited castle in Germany invites you to travel back in time all year round. Let yourself be taken back to the Middle Ages 365 days a year or dine like the prince-bishops in the baroque castle café.

Experience the Old Castle on Lake Constance

The path over the drawbridge of Meersburg Castle leads you directly into the adventure of the Middle Ages. In the more than 35 furnished rooms, you can experience the everyday life of people from the past eras in all its facets. Let yourself be enchanted by the time of the knights on your independent tour, follow the maids and servants in the kitchen and bakery, find out more about jurisdiction in the Middle Ages in the dungeon or look over the shoulder of the famous poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff in her study.

After your tour through the castle, the Meersburg Castle Café invites you to linger. It is located in the magnificent baroque hall, which was once used by the prince-bishops of Constance as a place of representation. The adjoining café terrace offers a fantastic panoramic view of the lake, the mountains and the castle. Here you can enjoy delicious cakes and snacks or an aperitif in the sunshine away from the hustle and bustle.

Tip:

A special highlight are the weekends of the "Belebte Burg". On one weekend in each month from April to October, the castle's museum rooms come to life. Experience a genuine depiction of medieval life. Dates and information can be found at burg-meersburg.de/burg-erlebnisse/
