- Every year during Advent, around 700 stars hang over the old town of St.Gallen. St.Gallen thus becomes the star city of Switzerland.
- These Christmas lights are called ‘Allerstern’, short for ‘St.Gallen Star’. It symbolises Christmas and is also a modern landmark for the city. The connection between the star and the city is emphasised by the rays: each of the fourteen rays stands for one of the fourteen city districts. ‘AllerStern’ symbolically unites them into a whole and stands for a common, positive aura.
- Anyone who wants to can sponsor a star.
- The specially decorated Christmas fir tree on Klosterplatz, in the centre of the Stiftsbezirk, gives the Sternenstadt an additional festive Christmas glow.
- The St.Gallen Christmas market, which is part of the City of Stars, takes place daily from 28 November 2024 to 24 December 2024 in St.Gallen city centre.
- St.Gallen-Lake Constance Tourism offers a city tour of the Star City on various dates. You can find out why Father Christmas wears a red coat and what the word Advent means.
TIP: Stress-free arrival by train from the Lake Constance region.
Experience the starry Christmas city without having to search for a parking space. Take advantage of the regular S-Bahn and express train connections, which take you to the festively decorated city in just 35 minutes from Constance or several times an hour from Lindau or Bregenz.
